Antony and Cleopatra: worksheets

These notes separate Shakespeare's descriptions
of characters to show to show how he has represented them and why we respond to
them as we do. For example, Antony has a reputation as a great soldier but her
is, when we met him, behaving in a less than admirable way for a member of the
roman triumvirate.
These notes follow the same practice but there is
an underlining of the contrast between Cleopatra, the lover and the Queen as
well as the perception of her in Rome. She is also contrasted with Octavia.
In these notes examples of powerplay are pointed
out and defined according to
the
description of power provided on the first page for this text. You need to
notice a shift in Antony's power and in his relationship with cleopatra.
