 Standard Module C: Texts and society

 In this module students study on texts in a specific situation, such as the workplace, or social context. Students also examine the features of those texts that are characteristic and valued in that specific context.

Students will examine the ways that those texts communicate:

  • Information

  • Ideas

  • Knowledge

  • Attitudes and beliefs

They will examine how those texts shape their meaning for their context and they will develop their own skills in communication in a specific situation or social context.

Students are expected to collect texts of their own choosing related to their studies in this module

 

Elective 1: The institution and individual experience

In this elective students will consider the effects of the institution on individual. These effects may be

  • positive, or

  • negative.

Students will examine texts that demonstrate

  • protest, or

  • compliance.

This examination will involve studying the features of the texts that reflect:

  • knowledge,

  • attitudes and beliefs relating to the institution and individual experience

Students are expected to collect texts of their own choosing related to their studies in this module

 

 Elective 2: Ways of living

Students will examine the variety of ways of living in our contemporary society.

This will involve considering the effects of:

  • personal

  • social

  • historical, and

  • cultural contexts

on the choices of different ways of living and recreation that are possible in contemporary society.

Students will also consider how different ways of living are

  • communicated, and

  • valued.

This examination will involve studying the features of the texts that reflect:

  • knowledge,

  • attitudes and beliefs relating to different ways of living.

 Students are expected to collect texts of their own choosing related to their studies in this module

 

Elective 3: Into the world

This elective focuses on aspects of growing up and the transition into new stages’ of an individual’s life. This will include a study of

  • growth and change, and

  • the different pathways into new experiences

 This examination will involve studying the features of the texts that reflect:

  • knowledge,

  • attitudes and beliefs relating to individuals who have moved into new worlds and new life stages, their thoughts and experiences.

Students are expected to collect texts of their own choosing related to their studies in this module
